The initial focus is on burnout. As Mental Health UK reported 9 in 10 of us experienced extreme stress and 1 in 5 had to take time of work due to stress. Initial surveys across the sector in 2026 indicate the levels have remained high. Chronic stress leads to burnout.
Burnout has 3 criteria:
Exhaustion: Extreme tiredness. For example, you continuously wake-up tired. Your mental, emotional and physical energy has been fully depleted.
Cynicism: Growing negativity towards your job to the extent you become detached from work - not caring anymore. This can show up as being very skeptical mindset - of colleagues and situations.
Ineffectiveness: You’re no longer capable, productive or successful at your job. This can show as doubting your skills, believing that nothing you do matters, struggling to finish routine tasks, viewing your work as unrewarding or having a deep sense of personal failure,
